I am so excited about this announcement! I am starting a new charitable initiative of the month, called "Shop for a Cause" starting August 1st (just a few days away!)
Each month I will be selecting a trusted organization to donate a percentage of sales from my online shop to. This is something I have wanted to do for so long and I am thrilled to be finally making it happen!
Giving back and doing good work in my community and within organizations that I care about has always been important to me. I have officially set up a program within my business that will continuously give back to charitable organizations each month.
So without further delay...
The first organization to kick off "Shop for a Cause" is Plastic Oceans.
Considering my love of the Maine coast and my history spent at the ocean, it’s probably no surprise I chose an organization that focuses on eliminating or cutting down on the use of plastic to keep our oceans clean. The stories I’ve heard, the photos I’ve seen, as well as what I’ve witnessed with my own eyes… it breaks my heart.
The countless amounts of marine life that are impacted by our use and over consumption of plastic is immeasurable. Just last week at a beautiful beach my kids and I visit on a regular basis, a dead whale washed ashore that had been strangled in a plastic fishing net and whose insides were flooded with plastic waste. To say it was disturbing is a drastic understatement.
This is is one reason I am passionate about and excited to partner with Plastic Oceans.
Who they are and what they stand for:
Plastic Oceans International is a US-based non-profit organization whose goal is to end plastic pollution and to foster sustainable communities worldwide. They operate with the belief that they can and must act locally in order to create change globally, and do so through four key pillars of activity: Education, Activism, Advocacy and Science. Yes!!!
