Family Friendly Holidays Activities

Even the dogs can join in the holiday fun!  Just look how happy mine are.

The holidays can be a fabulous time of year.  It can also be a busy and expensive time as well.  One thing to be mindful of is that it is important to remember that activities with your family do not need to break the bank.  Sometimes small things can create the finest memories and traditions.  Here is a list of ideas that do not require a lot of time, energy, or money but will help make memories with family and friends.

1- Drive around and see the lights.  We all know those houses or neighborhoods that put up amazing Christmas lights. Pack the family or friends in the car and drive around to check out Christmas lights.  Be sure to pack some snacks or even an easy dinner and play that Christmas music!

2—Family Game Night. Break out the board games for this fun evening. As a bonus, we love to make “Daddy’s Famous Popcorn” or “DFP” (Daddy awarded himself with this title) to snack on.

3—Volunteer Together. Find a local non-profit and volunteer your time. This can greatly impact your family and offer a good perspective during this time of year.

4- Bake Christmas cookies together.  Find new recipes or use some family-loved ones, everyone can play a role - even if it is being the cookie taste tester!!

5- Holiday Movie Night! This is one of our favorites! Have a holiday movie night - or multiple holiday movie nights this year! Our top must-see holiday movies are as follows: Christmas Vacation, Elf, The Sound of Music, Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas, Home Alone (the original), A Christmas Story, The Polar Express, and finally… It’s a Wonderful Life (which we must watch on Christmas Eve.)

6- Send some love by mailing a loved one a card.  We can easily forget that getting a piece of regular snail mail can make someone's day. Think of those that are not around family this season and brighten their day with a note in the mail!

7- Spread joy to the neighborhood with those freshly baked cookies.  The packaging does not have to be perfect - a paper plate and plastic wrap will do!  You can make little plates of joy for your neighbors or co-workers.

8- Have hot cocoa on a cold day with fun toppings.  Hot cocoa does not cost a lot but we all know the feeling of holding that warm mug on a cold day! Throw in some marshmallows or mini candy canes for fun!

I hope this inspires you to carve out some time in the next few weeks to spend quality time with family and friends. And remember you do not have to break the bank to create lasting holiday memories!
