6 Tips to Get Better Sleep

🌞 Rise & Shine, Sleep Lovers! 🌞

September is a fantastic time to start fresh and embrace a new routine, and what better way to begin than by improving your sleep? Let's dive into some fun and cheerful tips to help you catch those Zzz's like a pro.

First off, how do you know if your sleep routine needs some attention? If you’re tossing and turning at night, waking up more often than you’d like, or feeling groggy during the day, it might be time to refresh your sleep hygiene. A little consistency goes a long way toward making your nights restful and your mornings bright!

1. Consistent Bed & Wake Times
This one can be tricky, especially for us busy moms! With so much going on, it can be hard to stick to a routine. But hey, there’s nothing wrong with being the early-to-bed type. My family might poke fun at my early bedtime, but guess who’s up and ready to rock at 6 AM? Yep, this mom right here! 😉

2. Keep Your Bedroom Dark, Quiet & Cool
My husband likes our bedroom to be as cold as a winter wonderland—seriously, it’s like sleeping in an igloo! But I have to admit, the cool air, dark shades, and a little white noise from the fan make for a perfect sleep sanctuary. There’s something soothing about creating that cozy, comforting environment, just like when we were snuggled up in our mom’s tummy (minus the freezing temps, of course!).

3. Unplug from All Screens
Oh, the lure of the smartphone! It used to be so easy to set it aside, but these days I find myself scrolling through social media and news feeds right before bed. But I’ve noticed that on the nights I resist the temptation and pick up a good old-fashioned book instead, I fall asleep faster and sleep more soundly. Give it a try—it’s like a little gift to your future self!

4. Wind Down with Reading, Meditation, or a Bath
Remember how relaxing it was when your mom would soak in a warm bath at the end of a long day? It’s not just a fond memory—it’s a great way to signal to your body that it’s time to wind down. If you’re into meditation, bedtime is a perfect opportunity to practice. My sister shared a soothing nighttime meditation with me, and let me tell you, I’m usually snoozing before it’s halfway through!

5. Imagine Something Pleasant
This is a trick I often share with my kiddos. When they’re feeling anxious or a little scared after watching something spooky, I tell them to close their eyes and imagine a happy place—like our favorite beach or a fun family memory. It’s amazing how quickly their minds relax and drift off to dreamland!

6. Avoid Heavy Meals, Caffeine & Alcohol
This one’s a work in progress for me! I’ve got a soft spot for evening snacks, especially if there’s pasta, bread, and something sweet involved. But overindulging before bed? Not a recipe for sweet dreams! Since switching to a mostly vegan diet, I’ve felt so much better and more rested. And as for caffeine and alcohol, I’ve learned that moderation is key. A little wine here and there is fine, but too much can lead to those 3 AM wake-ups that leave you feeling anything but refreshed.

September is the perfect time to reset and prioritize your sleep. Getting a great night’s sleep can truly transform your days. No wonder they call it “beauty sleep”—because it works! Here’s to sweet dreams and sunny mornings for us all. Happy sleeping!
